A “Surf City” Beach Build

“If you are lucky enough to live at the beach — you are lucky enough”

Ok, not only are we lucky enough live at the beach, but we are lucky lucky lucky (think jackpot of gold!) to work here as well.  Huntington Beach CA is, in our VERY biased opinion, the BEST place in the whole wide world.  And the fact that we get to build houses here – don’t even get us started!  We are talking cartwheels on the beach, smiling when nobody is looking, singing in the shower HAPPY!  “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands” CLAP CLAP!

But in addition to having the awesome opportunity to build custom homes in Surf City, USA we also get to work with the most amazing clients.  When we were approached by this family to help  build their Huntington Beach dream home, we couldn’t have been more excited.  Just two blocks from the sand, two blocks from Main Street, and across the street from HB’s most recent retail concept Pacific City – we jumped on the opportunity! The scope of the project was a complete new construction build – soup to nuts.  The overall build was three custom homes; one for spec, one for an investor, and one for our clients to call their own.  Our clients were big fans of previous projects we had completed, such as our “Industrial Cape Cod” and our “California Craftsman II” so that was our design foundation.  Functional spaces, clean lines, a BIG pool for the kiddos, and lots of ocean views were the focus points.

As for our inspiration?  A local artist’s whimsical take on Huntington Beach life.

Once our client’s had chosen a local builder, it was time for the design.  A clean and simple look, white siding with pops of turquoise and yellow was the beachy color palette.  Our biggest challenge?  Sticking to this simple look!  With so many options, so many ideas, so many styles available – it was our job to constantly remind our clients of the “simple beach house” vision they had chosen and not let them stray from it.  Easier said than done!

While we worked on the design, the building construction really got underway.A key difference between this project and similar homes we had built in downtown Huntington Beach was the sizable yard.  A pool?  A playground?  Real vs fake grass?  The process of making all these decisions was a very collaborative process.  When it comes to brainstorming, the more ideas the better! We picked tile, and plumbing fixtures – lights and mirrors – flooring, paint colors, door styles – you name it and we called it out!  It was exciting to see the progress as the tile went in and the outside areas came together.

The final touch?  We got to choose the perfect front door color.  Which would you have chosen? And then, everything we had worked for – our clients moved in and absolutely love their “Surf City” beach build!

Such beautiful designs. Loved the colors, especially the door. The kitchen layout is great too, along with the darker color counter top. May I ask what color and brand the floor is, and the cabinets in the kitchen? Its such an updated sleek, yet comfortable on the eyes look. Perfect for the beach!
