Sundeck, Fundeck – Turn Any Space into a Rooftop Oasis

Brett and I are building a new house just a few blocks away from where we currently live. The new build is on one of our favorite streets in Huntington Beach, and will give us more space and privacy than our current, “Tall Skinny” by the beach. The plans for our new house did not originally contain a roof deck, but once the garage was framed out, our contractor called us up onto the roof and it just seemed like a no-brainer. You know me: maximizing space is the name of my game. So, why just have a roof when a roof-deck was so clearly in order?

On my longest days at work, I like to picture myself up on that deck, shut away from the rest of the world, with a good book and the following assorted items within easy reach.

We have a house in San Clemente that belonged to our grandparents, father, and now us! It’s just steps from the beach stairs and WE want to add a deck off the loft and on top of the garage area. Do you have any suggestions, warnings, anything???

Yes: find a really great, trusted contractor to work with, preferably based on word-of-mouth recommendations. This is EVERYTHING. It sounds like a lovely home full of memories and character. I wish you all the luck with your project. Would love to see some pics!
