Jazzy’s 2020 Holiday House

My halls are officially decked for the holidays at the Roth Holiday House Homestead! It was so fun decorating our new house for Christmas, because this is the first Christmas we’ll spend in this home and the first one we’ll share with Hazel (I won’t cry if you won’t!).

Luckily enough, I didn’t have to buy much at all this year as far as decorations go… in fact, pretty much everything I used is stuff we already owned. All we needed to do was dig it out of storage and make sense of it! Which, for the record, is not fun in and of itself. But once I started to see our holiday decor take shape and bring a little spirit to this new home, it made all the schlepping a distant memory. Today I’m giving you a little tour of my holiday decor around the house. I hope you love it as much as we do!

How I Decorated My House for the Holidays

The Front Entry

Decorating my front door for the holidays took me under an hour – I promise! I used outdoor Command Hooks to hang pre-lit garland around the door and popped some poinsettias into pots I already had around my warehouse. The Santa is vintage, and he’s been with me a long time! The copper bells were a last-minute add and they ended up making the whole scene feel perfect.

The Tree

This is our second year with this fake tree – a big step for us last year to ditch the fresh tree – and I’m still loving it! I bought this tree at Costco and everyone thinks it’s real when they see it, so I’d say it’s a good fake! One cool thing I like to do to really bring my tree to life is wrap the presents I’ve been buying all year in fun wrapping paper. In my opinion, the tree isn’t done until there are a few gifts under it. They make the tree look so warm and inviting and add some fun patterns to your typical holiday colors.

See what I mean?!

And yes, if you’re like Hazel, just watching Mom hang ornaments and wrap gifts will send you into a deep sleep – ha!

The Fireplace

Since we don’t have a traditional mantel (because we have a TV mounted above the fireplace), I used Command hooks on the top surface of our fireplace and hung our stockings from those.

Then, when Christmas is over, we’ll remove the hooks without there being any damage to the fireplace. I added some fun gold tinsel garland to the top to cover the Command hooks, and voila.

I think Tiger likes his tiny stocking, don’t you?

He’s really in the holiday spirit!

The Kitchen

When it came to decorating our new kitchen for the holidays, I was excited to work with all of our open shelves. I tried to tuck something “Christmasy” or wintery onto about every other shelf and draped fairy lights all over the shelves for a touch of magic. Guys, once you start decorating with fairy lights, you won’t want to stop. It’s like an instant cheer-booster.

See what I mean about the fairy lights?! How cute is that?

Pro tip: Ask the Christmas tree lot guys for their extra cuttings. They always have them, and I got these for free!

This plate makes me laugh every time I see it!

Another pro tip: forage stems from your own yard or neighborhood! I cut these branches from my front yard to create a wintery vibe that isn’t necessarily “Christmasy,” but brings that nice pop of green into the space.

My friends Kim and Tim from Ripe Designs made this tree painting – I feel like it was made for this year’s holiday house!

The Nutcracker Collection

So, I married into a nutcracker collection. That’s right: these are all Brett’s from growing up. They’re pretty fun! These open shelves in our entryway were calling their names.

And I gave these guys the fairy lights treatment as well!

The Stairwell

And last but not least, I HAD to deck out this stairwell in pre-lit garland. The more lights and greenery, the better, I say! I hope you’re all having a safe and festive holiday season so far!
