Spring has sprung—and does anything make you happier? I can’t think of anything better than getting out our cute clothes (I mean, have you seen Hazel in a sunhat?), dusting off our patio furniture,...
Ep. 2: Kitchen – Keeping it in the Family
Do you guys remember this kitchen? The one where we created an EXPANDABLE island and removed a wall and replaced the flooring and cabinets and backsplash and, well, maybe a picture would be more expeditious.
I mean, we even removed a window, which is normally a big no-no, and the room STILL looks way lighter and brighter than it did before. If all of this isn’t enough to jog your memory, make sure to watch the episode again on iTunes HERE and on Amazon HERE.
For the FULL story on uncovering this home’s Hidden Potential, read the Ep. 2: Keeping It in the Family overview blog post for details on everything BUT the kitchen.
If you’ve come for details on the #moderncottage cabinets, countertops, and everything in between, then you’ve come to the right place. Let’s get cookin! Here’s the inspiration board, which I created in Pinterest.
Plumbing: We used classic stainless steel for the fixtures, and an apron front sink as a nod to the home’s cottage style.
Countertops and Backsplash: Arctic white quartz countertops and a 1” x 3” stacked carrera marble backsplash brightened up what had formerly been a pretty dingy space.
Cabinets: The perimeter cabinets are painted in Sherwin Williams’ Pure White, while the island is painted in one of my all time favorite blues: Benjamin Moore Hale Navy. The simple black cabinet hardware keeps things classic, while the piece de resistance here is undoubtedly the kitchen island. Not only does it incorporate the warm, homey feel of butcher block into the space’s design, but it can be expanded to add additional seating if the occasion calls, and contracted to save space when the party’s over. It’s a #moderncottage marvel!
Appliances: A classic suite of KitchenAid stainless steel appliances feels timeless and well considered.
Details: Black rattan pendants are a bold but warm statement in this small space, and an oak wrap over the range hood is the icing on this #moderncottage cake.
That’s all for now. Here’s hoping you find the #hiddenpotential in whatever your current endeavors may entail!
